Artificial Disc Surgery

Artificial lumbar disc replacement surgery is revolutionizing the treatment for chronic low back pain. In this procedure, the surgeon inserts a quarter-sized artificial lumbar disc—composed of high-density plastic between two metal plates—in place of the removed disc. Grooved teeth on the plates' outer sides keep the disc in place, as does the natural pressure of the spine.
